Authorities have identified the motorcyclist killed in a single-vehicle crash on June 7 in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office confirmed Monday that the victim was Mervyn Jerome Castillo, 30, of Martinez.
Castillo was riding his 2023 Ducati motorcycle northbound on Highway 9, south of Highway 35, at an unknown speed when the incident occurred. For reasons still under investigation, his vehicle left the roadway and struck an embankment and a tree east of the highway.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene around 12:40 p.m. Despite life-saving efforts by medical personnel, Castillo sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The CHP continues to investigate the cause of the crash, and no further details have been released at this time.
