FBI Breaks Up Plot to Attack White House UFC Event with Drones

Washington, crime, police, politics

The FBI announced on Tuesday that it disrupted an alleged plot to attack the UFC America 250 event held at the White House on Sunday, June 14, 2026. According to a law enforcement source speaking to CBS News, five individuals are currently in custody.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated on X that the bureau and its partners became aware of a potential threat on June 10 involving individuals outside the National Capital Region. A multi-state operation led to the arrests, stopping the planned attacks.

Two sources told CBS News that the plot allegedly involved using explosive-laden drones to strike buildings in the area, snipers to attack fleeing crowds, and a second wave to storm the White House gate. The investigation began after a relative contacted authorities, concerned about a family member discussing nefarious activities in Washington, D.C.

This tip led to the arrest of an Ohio man and the discovery of a Signal chat where the plot was discussed. Further arrests followed as the investigation continued.

Fox News first reported the alleged plot and arrests. The White House event, which coincided with President Trump's 80th birthday and the nation's 250th anniversary celebrations, drew thousands of attendees.

Trump, at the G7 summit in France, said he had not been briefed on the thwarted attack. Secret Service Director Sean Curran confirmed the agency's cooperation with the FBI.

Patel praised the investigative work, stating it was "nothing out of the ordinary" and that the FBI is built to detect and respond to such threats. This incident follows a recent shooting near the White House and an attack on the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
