A single-vehicle truck crash in Tehama County late Sunday night left one person dead, according to the California Highway Patrol. Preliminary investigations indicate alcohol may have played a role in the tragedy.
The crash took place on Highway 36 in Tehama County. CHP officers responded to the scene around 10 p.m. and found the truck had veered off the road and overturned. The driver, a 45-year-old man and the sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup crashed into a tree, according to the CHP.
CHP officials stated that alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology results are pending, but the investigation is ongoing. No other vehicles were involved.
Tehama County, located in Northern California's Sacramento Valley, has a population of about 65,000. Rural roads like Highway 36 often lack lighting and have sharp curves, making impaired driving especially dangerous. This crash adds to a troubling trend of DUI-related fatalities in the region.
