On July 18, 2026, around 7:25 p.m., Kern County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the 800 block of Crane Street in east Bakersfield. They found two people with gunshot wounds. One victim, later identified as 53-year-old Eric Wesley Lancaster, died at the scene. The second victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Homicide detectives took over the investigation. A 16-year-old was detained in the nearby neighborhood, initially on an unrelated matter. Follow-up work then connected him to the shooting. Detectives also identified a 12-year-old and a 13-year-old as suspects.
The two other suspects were arrested on July 29, 2026, and August 2, 2026. All three were charged with murder, attempted murder, conspiracy, and participation in a criminal street gang.
