A pregnant woman was found shot to death alongside her husband in a Westwood home early Friday morning, in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide. The Los Angeles County medical examiner's office identified the victim as Gul Erdogan, 45, who died from a gunshot wound to the head. Her husband, Aytac Camdeviren, 43, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, with his manner of death listed as suicide. The tragedy has shocked the quiet, affluent neighborhood near the Los Angeles Country Club.
Police responded to a shooting call at a home on the 1300 block of Holmby Avenue, near Wellworth Avenue, around 5:45 a.m. on July 10, 2026. Inside the two-story home, officers found Erdogan and her husband, both deceased from gunshot wounds. Preliminary evidence suggests the man shot Erdogan before turning the gun on himself, according to an LAPD spokesperson. However, the LAPD has not officially confirmed the sequence of events, who pulled the trigger, or what potential motive may have led to the shooting. Neighbor Rich Schultz told KTLA5 that the couple seemed happy and had just held a baby shower on July 4. Erdogan was 8½ months pregnant, Schultz confirmed. “They seemed like a pretty happy couple, talking, walking hand in hand,” Schultz said, adding that nothing seemed amiss with their relationship and describing the incident as “one of those crazy things that who knows what was going on underneath.” The medical examiner's office listed Erdogan's manner of death as homicide, and the husband's name was not immediately released.
The incident occurred in Westwood, a neighborhood in Los Angeles County, near the Los Angeles Country Club. Los Angeles has seen a troubling series of family murder-suicides in recent months, including a June case in Canoga Park where a man killed his twin 10-year-old sons, and a May case in North Hills where a mother allegedly killed her husband, infant, and toddler before taking her own life.
Family murder-suicides, while rare, have sparked concern in Southern California. In April, a well-known nonprofit executive in Santa Monica allegedly shot his wife and himself in their Venice home. These cases often leave communities searching for answers about underlying mental health or relationship issues.
