The Dutch Flat Fire ignited in the Vallejo area on July 25, 2026, prompting immediate evacuation orders from the American Canyon Police Department. The fire, estimated at 5 acres, is located near Kimberly Drive and Meadow Bay Drive, west of Meadow Bay Drive and north of Severus Drive in Vallejo, with a moderate rate of spread threatening structures. The fire was reported shortly after noon and had burned 5 acres as of about 2:30 p.m., according to the American Canyon Fire Protection District. The fire was burning in grass and brush in marshland, making access difficult. Firefighters requested a helicopter to assist with the response because the fire was in wetlands. Later, fire officials reported that forward progress had been stopped with the assistance of Cal Fire helicopter water drops, though the incident remained active.
Authorities ordered evacuations for Knightsbridge Way (up to Chaucer Lane), Kensington Way, and Northrup Lane to Chaucer Lane. The orders were rescinded by police at about 3 p.m. Saturday. Fire crews are actively working to protect homes and contain the blaze. “Due to difficult access, the fire continues to burn,” the American Canyon Fire Protection District said in a statement just before 2 p.m. Saturday. “Smoke and ash will be visible for the immediate future. As a precaution we suggest all in the area close your windows and doors.” The cause of the fire had not been determined Saturday afternoon. Firefighters remained at the scene, and as of late afternoon, forward progress was stopped but the incident remained active.
As of Sunday, July 26, the fire had grown to 32.5 acres and was 90% contained, according to Cal Fire. No injuries or deaths were reported. The evacuation order was lifted about 30 minutes after issuance, and all road closures have since been lifted, with all roadways open according to the American Canyon Fire Protection District. Initially, parts of Meadow Bay Drive remained closed, but were later reopened. The Napa County Fire Department continued to monitor and clean up the incident. Emergency crews remain on scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Vallejo lies in Solano County, with American Canyon in adjacent Napa County. The region is prone to grass fires during dry, windy conditions. Local agencies are coordinating with CAL FIRE to manage the incident. In addition to the Dutch Flat Fire, other fires occurred in the region on July 25. In Mendocino County, a residential structure fire near Covelo was fully contained within two hours, and the Brick Fire near Laytonville burned 6.98 acres and was 100% contained by Saturday night. No injuries were reported in any of these incidents.
Interestingly, a separate Dutch Flat Fire burned in Nevada's Hot Springs Mountain Range earlier this year, which is now 100% contained. That fire, on BLM land, grew rapidly due to thunderstorms. The shared name causes occasional confusion among residents tracking wildfires.
Residents in the affected areas should follow evacuation orders and stay informed via official channels. Firefighting efforts continue to protect structures and prevent further spread.
