The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall after routine testing detected Salmonella in a jar of Bettergoods Pistachio Nut Butter at a Walmart store in Florida. The recall affects one lot sold in 19 states, including Tennessee and Georgia.
The recalled product is a 6.7-ounce glass jar with the lot number LB028ACP04. The best-by date is Jan. 28, 2027, and the UPC is 194346207961.
The affected lot was distributed to Walmart stores in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington and Wyoming.
Tennessee and Georgia shoppers were urged to check their pantries, but the recall covers all 19 states. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled product.
Stop eating the nut butter immediately. Return the jar to any Walmart store for a full refund. Do not consume the product even if it looks or smells normal.
Salmonella can cause serious illness, especially in young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms of Salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps. Most healthy people recover without treatment, but some cases require medical care.
No Walmart stores in California are on the affected state list. The recall did not include California locations. Still, California residents who bought the product online or traveled to an affected state should check the lot number.
Food recalls for Salmonella are relatively common. The FDA routinely tests retail samples and works with manufacturers to remove contaminated lots before illnesses occur. In this case, the recall is precautionary because no illnesses have been reported.
