Portland police responded to a report of an injured person on the southbound side of I-295 near Exit 8 around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday. Officers found Nadeau in the breakdown lane next to a walking path. He was taken to Maine Medical Center, where he died.
Investigators say Nadeau had been walking with friends when a man on a bicycle approached them. An altercation followed, and the bicycle rider left the scene. Witnesses gave police a description, and officers located Rodney on Presumpscot Street.
"No additional details about the circumstances surrounding the incident will be released at this time," police said.
Rodney was taken into custody without incident and booked into Cumberland County Jail. He is charged with murder. Authorities have not disclosed how Nadeau was killed.
Court records show Rodney was convicted of assault in 2009 and fined $750. In 2015, he was charged with domestic violent assault. That charge was dismissed after a guilty plea to disorderly conduct, with a $600 fine.
