Five months after a mother of three was fatally shot in Barstow, her alleged killer remains a fugitive, leaving the family devastated and searching for answers. Jessie Moore, 28, of Adelanto, died on January 17, 2026, a day after being shot multiple times at a bar in the 200 block of North First Avenue in Barstow.
The Barstow Police Department has obtained a warrant for the arrest of 36-year-old Alyse Brown of Barstow, who is charged with murder and considered armed and dangerous.
The shooting occurred around 11:40 p.m. on January 16.
Police responded to multiple reports of gunfire and were later informed that Moore had arrived at a local emergency room with multiple gunshot wounds. She succumbed to her injuries the following day.
Authorities have not released a motive or additional details about the incident.
According to Moore's mother, Kimberly Guess, the two women had been friends since childhood, having grown up together in Barstow. On the night of the shooting, Moore had attended a barbecue at Brown's home before the two went to the bar together.
Guess stated that Brown became involved in a fight with another patron and ultimately fired shots, missing one target but striking Moore twice — once in the chest and once in the arm. Brown fled the scene and has not been seen since.
Guess expressed her anguish, saying she wants to confront her daughter's killer and ask, "Why did you do that to my daughter?" She described Moore as outgoing, funny, and deeply devoted to her three children, ages 8, 10, and 14. Moore also leaves behind two sisters, a brother, and 20 nieces and nephews.
Guess, who was recovering from back surgery at the time of the killing and is now on disability, is caring for Moore's children alongside her older sister. She described the struggle to pay bills and hold the family together as "trying to put the pieces back together."
