A federal grand jury in Sacramento has indicted Jeffrey Alan Koehl, a 60-year-old Reno, Nevada resident, on two counts of sexual exploitation of a child, stemming from incidents that occurred in February 2008 in Roseville, California. The indictment, returned on June 13, 2026, alleges that Koehl coerced a minor into engaging in sexually explicit conduct and used a handheld camera to record two videos at a residence in Roseville.
The victim, now an adult, discovered the existence of the videos and submitted an online tip to the FBI National Threat Operations Center on January 20, 2025, which initiated a federal investigation. Koehl was arrested on January 30, 2026, in Carmichael, California, and has remained in custody since.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation with assistance from the Reno Police Department and the California Highway Patrol. Assistant U.S.
Attorney Dhruv M. Sharma is prosecuting the case.
If convicted, Koehl faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum of 30 years, as well as a $250,000 fine for each count. The actual sentence will be determined by the court based on statutory factors and federal sentencing guidelines.
The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
