Weaving Residency Brings Master Artisan to Baker City's Oregon Trail Center

The National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center near Baker City will host Master Weaver Cynthia Jack Newman for a three-day Folklife residency from June 18-20, 2026. Newman will demonstrate transparent weaving techniques using linen and wool on a table loom in the Wagon Box Theater.

She earned Master Weaver certification from the Handweavers Guild of America in 2018. Her work draws inspiration from architecture and the natural landscape.

The residency is part of a seven-month partnership with the Oregon Folklife Network, supported by the James and Marion Miller Foundation. Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for seniors; the center is open daily from 10 a.m.
