Five Alameda County Sheriff's Vehicles Stolen from Oakland Parking Garage, All Recovered

Five vehicles belonging to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office were stolen early Sunday morning from a parking garage in downtown Oakland, but all were recovered later that day, according to sheriff's officials. The theft was discovered at approximately 7:15 a.m.

by a sheriff's office employee at the Alameda County Parking Garage located at 165 13th Street. Four of the vehicles were found shortly after the burglary was reported, but one vehicle—an unmarked blue 2025 Ford Explorer—remained missing into late Sunday afternoon, prompting a public alert.

Sergeant Morales stated that the missing vehicle was equipped with emergency equipment, leading the sheriff's office to advise caution to anyone approached by someone claiming to be law enforcement in a vehicle matching that description. In an initial statement released Sunday afternoon, Morales said the sheriff's office did not have information indicating an "immediate threat" to the public but urged residents to remain "vigilant." He emphasized, "The Sheriff's Office understands the concern that incidents involving stolen law enforcement vehicles may cause within the community.

We want to reassure residents that this case is being treated with the highest priority, and investigators are employing all available resources to recover the vehicles and ensure public safety." Within two hours of that statement, Morales confirmed that the fifth and final vehicle had been recovered. "Great update for all," he said at around 4:20 p.m.

The investigation into the theft is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine how the vehicles were taken and whether any suspects have been identified. The recovery of all vehicles brings some relief to the community, but the incident has raised concerns about security at the parking facility and the potential misuse of law enforcement equipment.
