Sorrento Fire: Evacuations Ordered as Wildfire Threatens Structures in Sorrento Valley

Boulevard, San Diego, fire, wildfire, evacuation, emergency

A fast-moving wildfire, dubbed the Sorrento Fire, broke out Monday morning in Sorrento Valley, prompting immediate evacuation orders and threatening structures as it spread rapidly through the Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve. The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD) reported the blaze had grown to approximately 45 acres by late morning, moving east at a dangerous rate of spread.

The fire was first reported around 9:20 a.m. near Sorrento Valley Boulevard, northeast of Interstate 5.

Fire crews are actively working to contain the flames, but the fire's rapid advance has forced authorities to order evacuations in several neighborhoods. Evacuation orders were issued for the 10500 blocks of Sand Crab Place and Corte Jardin Del Mar, with additional warnings for nearby areas.

A temporary evacuation point has been established at Mandell Weiss Eastgate Park, located at 4275 Eastgate Mall.

Road closures are in effect to facilitate emergency response and ensure public safety. Sorrento Valley Boulevard is completely closed between Vista Sorrento Parkway and Camino Santa Fe, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Residents in the affected zones are urged to follow evacuation orders immediately and avoid the area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
