Tahoe Tree Company has announced its annual Demonstration Garden and Event Schedule for the 2026 season, offering a comprehensive lineup of hands-on workshops and community events from May through mid-October. The series is designed to equip residents and gardeners in the Lake Tahoe and Truckee regions with specialized techniques for high-altitude gardening, a practice that requires unique approaches due to the challenging mountain climate.
With over 70 years of service as a horticultural cornerstone in the area, Tahoe Tree Company continues to provide practical education for sustaining mountain landscapes. This year’s events include a variety of interactive sessions such as building raised beds, painting planter crates, and learning about conifers of the Tahoe Basin with an optional forest walk.
The schedule also features collaborative events like “Plant and Sip with Tahoe Wine Collective” on July 18, where participants can enjoy local wines while potting new plants.
Late-summer and autumn workshops focus on harvesting and winterization, including sessions on garlic harvesting and salsa-making on August 16, creating gnome or fairy gardens on August 30, and putting gardens to bed for winter on September 16. The season concludes on October 11 with a garlic planting workshop led by Chris York, teaching proper fall bulb setting for a summer harvest.
“High-altitude gardening is all about working in tandem with our unique mountain seasons,” said John Crus, owner of Tahoe Tree Company. “From our early-summer community planting days to our final garden winterization classes, this full-season lineup provides a continuous roadmap to keep outdoor spaces beautiful, sustainable, and productive.”
All events are held outdoors at the nursery, located a quarter-mile south of Tahoe City. While many events are free, advanced online RSVPs are required.

The announcement highlights the company’s commitment to fostering community engagement and sustainable gardening practices in the Alpine region. Residents of San Diego County and Alpine may find inspiration for adapting these techniques to their own local climates, though the workshops are specifically tailored to the Lake Tahoe area.
