Baby Dies After Emergency C-Section Following Mother's Fatal Shooting in San Jose

SAN JOSE — A tragic incident unfolded Monday morning at a Kaiser Permanente medical complex on Cottle Road, where a shooting left a man and a woman critically injured. The woman, who was pregnant, was rushed to the hospital where doctors performed an emergency cesarean section to deliver her baby.

Despite medical efforts, the infant later died at the hospital, according to authorities. The shooting was reported at 10:14 a.m.

in the parking lot of the medical complex, located just north of where Beswick Drive turns into Raleigh Road. The area is a mix of nondescript medical offices across from a busy shopping plaza.

Both victims were transported with life-threatening injuries, police said. The San Jose Police Department described the incident as "an isolated incident" and stated there was no ongoing threat to public safety.

Police declined to comment on whether the suspected shooter was among the injured or still at large. Staff at the medical offices initially sheltered in place, and appointments were canceled following the shooting, according to an employee.

A Kaiser spokesperson deferred comment to SJPD. Streets surrounding the crime scene were expected to be closed or restricted while investigators examined the site.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many expressing grief over the loss of the mother and her newborn. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
