The Oak Park Public Safety Department received multiple reports of gunshots around 4:48 a.m. Monday. Neighbors said they heard multiple gunshots fired about that time. Officers arrived at a residence on Coolidge Highway and found an 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man dead inside the home. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names have not been released.
Dozens of shell casings were found at the scene. A family member later identified the 19-year-old man as Dashaun Green, describing him as a young man passionate about football with a bright future cut short.
Two other women, both in their late teens, were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to recover, according to police. The two injured women are in stable condition and are known to investigators. One of the women was confirmed to have sustained a gunshot wound. Officials have not said whether the other was shot or injured in another way.
Police confirmed that a party had taken place at the home. Davains Green, who said he is Dashaun's father, told CBS News Detroit that "a group of guys was asked to leave, the guys left, they continued their little gathering, and the guys came back, and shots were fired. From my understanding, over 40 or 50 rounds were shot." He described his son as a young man passionate about football with a bright future cut short. "About to get his car and go back to school. Came to a friend get together. I don't know who you guys is but you took a great kid. You guys took somebody's daughter. For what. You guys took my world," Green said.
The grieving father was standing in disbelief outside the home and said his son's body was still inside. His family says they rented out the home for a party.
Local 4 reported that the gathering was a birthday celebration and pajama party for a group of teenagers. The home is a short-term rental property.
The Oak Park Public Safety Investigation Bureau is working with the Oakland County Crime Scene Analysis Unit. Police have not identified any suspects or made arrests. City Manager Erik Tungate released a statement saying, "This senseless act of violence and disregard for human life will not be tolerated in our community." He added, "We are dedicating every available resource to this investigation and are committed to bringing those responsible to justice. If anyone has information, we urge them to come forward." He directed anyone with information to call Oak Park Public Safety at 248-691-7520.
Authorities say the circumstances that led to the shooting and the motive remain unclear. Oak Park Director of Public Safety Steve Cooper said, "Terrible tragedy. My heart goes out to the families. We've been canvassing the area for any type of video surveillance footage and any witnesses that had any information that they'd be willing to share." Cooper pledged, "We will be relentless. We will leave no stone unturned. We will continue to work this case actively and aggressively 24/7."
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

This is the second fatal shooting in Oak Park in less than a month. On July 17, a 27-year-old man was found dead inside his vehicle outside a building at 21301 Meyers Road. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the head, and the death was ruled a homicide. Officials said no other injuries were reported as a result of the incident, and the man's name has not been released. No arrests have been reported in that case either. The string of violence has prompted local leaders to call for more community engagement with police.
