Tunnel Discovered Near Tijuana-San Diego Border

Mexican authorities announced the discovery of a tunnel near the Tijuana-San Diego border in Otay Mesa during a search warrant executed in the Nueva Tijuana neighborhood on Saturday. The tunnel, approximately 265 meters long and 6.30 meters deep (about 869 feet long and 21 feet deep), was found by agents from Mexico's Attorney General's Office, assisted by the Mexican Navy.

During the search of a property in Nueva Tijuana, officials seized four cartridges, three cell phones, bank cards, a DVR device, and 24 doses of methamphetamine, among other items, according to the Mexican Navy. While searching the property, authorities discovered a wooden tunnel believed to be heading toward the U.S.

border. Based on the evidence seized, Mexico's Attorney General's Office stated that the property likely functioned as a hub for the storage and trafficking of weapons, explosives, and illicit substances.

The evidence and property have been turned over to the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, which will continue the investigation in accordance with the law. To protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation and ensure the safety of all involved, no additional details are available at this time.
