Man pleads not guilty to murder of pregnant ex-girlfriend in Bay Park

Canyon, Bay Park, San Diego, crime, court, incident

A 21-year-old man accused of ambushing and fatally shooting his pregnant, 17-year-old ex-girlfriend in Bay Park last weekend pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of murder, attempted murder, and possession of a machine gun. Trevon Williams, who prosecutors confirmed is the father of the victim's unborn child, is charged in the Saturday slaying outside an Airbnb on Gardena Avenue.

The victim, identified by family as Jariah Edwards, was shot in the head after being lured outside. Her child was delivered via emergency cesarean section at 32 weeks and remains hospitalized in critical condition with minimal brain activity due to oxygen loss, according to Deputy District Attorney Alexandra Lorens.

Williams allegedly ordered a Lyft from his home state of Arizona to the San Diego residence where Edwards was staying with her family. He then hid near the house and sent a DoorDash order of flowers to lure her outside.

When she first came out with a family member, Williams did not attack. After a second DoorDash order of a vase, Edwards emerged alone, and Williams shot her, fled, changed clothes, and hid in a nearby canyon.

He was arrested less than two hours later and found with a gun. Williams faces life in prison without parole or the death penalty if convicted of all charges, including a special circumstance of lying in wait.

A GoFundMe page describes Edwards as a bright, loving young woman preparing to welcome her first child, a baby girl, who is now fighting for her life.
