Target Recalls Up & Up Baby Wipes After FDA Finds Life-Threatening Bacteria

Kennedy, health, medicine, recall, consumer safety

Federal regulators have ordered a nationwide recall of Target's Up & Up baby wipes after testing revealed bacterial contamination that poses serious, potentially life-threatening risks to infants and individuals with weakened immune systems. The U.S.

Food and Drug Administration issued the recall notice for the fragrance-free and cucumber-scented wipes, sold in various pack sizes both online and in Target stores across the country. The recall follows numerous customer complaints of product discoloration, skin and eye irritation, and infections that are currently under investigation by Target and the manufacturer, Sapro Temizlik Urunleri.

FDA testing identified the presence of Burkholderia cepacia and Burkholderia gladioli in product samples. These bacteria, commonly found in soil and water, can cause local infections in healthy individuals, but for those with compromised immune systems, including newborns and young children, the infection can enter the bloodstream and lead to life-threatening sepsis or pneumonia, according to the FDA.

The recalled products include Up & Up Fragrance Free Wipes in 20-, 72-, 216-, 800-, and 1,200-count packages, and Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes in 72-, 216-, and 800-count containers. The Fragrance Free Wipes affected have manufacturing dates from November 7, 2025, to May 5, 2026, and expiration dates from May 10, 2028, to November 5, 2028.

The Fresh Cucumber Scented Wipes have manufacturing dates of December 29, 2025, to December 30, 2025, and expiration dates of June 29, 2028, to June 30, 2028. The FDA advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled wipes and return them to any Target store for a full refund.

This recall adds to Target's recent safety issues, including a previous incident involving botulism-linked infant formula left on store shelves. The investigation into the infections associated with the wipes continues.
