Suspect Killed After Taking 10 Hostages in California Office Building Standoff

A man who held 10 people hostage inside a California office building was shot and killed by FBI agents, ending a standoff that lasted more than 15 hours, police said Wednesday. The incident began on Tuesday morning when the suspect, armed with a handgun, entered the building in the city of Santa Ana and barricaded himself with the hostages.

Law enforcement officials, including the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team, surrounded the building and attempted to negotiate with the suspect. After hours of tense negotiations, the situation escalated, and FBI agents fatally shot the suspect.

All 10 hostages were rescued unharmed, authorities confirmed. The suspect's identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The motive for the hostage-taking remains under investigation. The standoff caused significant disruption in the area, with nearby businesses and schools placed on lockdown.

Santa Ana Police Chief David Valentin praised the coordinated response of local and federal agencies, stating that the safety of the hostages was the top priority throughout the ordeal.
