Suspect Killed After Taking 10 Hostages in Bakersfield Standoff

A man who took 10 people hostage inside a California office building was shot and killed by FBI agents, ending a more than 15-hour standoff in Bakersfield, police said Wednesday. The incident began on Tuesday morning when the suspect, whose identity has not been released, entered a commercial office building in the 1800 block of 24th Street and barricaded himself with the hostages.

Law enforcement officials, including the Bakersfield Police Department and the FBI, responded to the scene and established a perimeter. After hours of negotiations, the situation escalated, and FBI tactical team members fatally shot the suspect.

All 10 hostages were rescued unharmed, according to police. The Kern County District Attorney's Office will review the shooting.

The motive remains under investigation.
