SFPD Officer Shot and Wounded with Life-Threatening Injuries

Boulevard, San Francisco, crime, police, shooting

A San Francisco police officer was shot and wounded Sunday evening, sustaining life-threatening injuries, according to department officials. The incident occurred when officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the Bayview District.

The suspect, who was driving the stolen car, opened fire on officers, striking one. Additional officers located the suspect driver near Bayshore Boulevard and Costa Street and took him into custody.

Two firearms were also seized. This was the first shooting by city police this year.

The last officer-involved shooting occurred on January 4, 2025, when police shot a man walking along Highway 101 lanes near the Cesar Chavez Street off-ramp. Sunday's shooting is under investigation by the San Francisco District Attorney, the police department's investigative services and internal affairs divisions, and the city Department of Police Accountability.

A town hall meeting on the officer-involved shooting will be held within 10 days, consistent with the department's transparency policy.
