The restored Black Family statue was unveiled Saturday at Neal Petties Mountain View Community Park in San Diego, marking the start of Juneteenth celebrations. The original wooden sculpture, created by artist Rossie S.
Wade, stood for only 10–12 years before deteriorating. The new stainless steel version, crafted by welding professor Mike Bradbury, is designed to last for decades.
Community advocate Jeffrey Hayes led the restoration effort, supported by a state grant and local officials.
