Pregnant Teen Fatally Shot Outside Bay Park Rental; Boyfriend in Custody

Canyon, San Diego, Bay Park, crime, shooting, homicide

A 17-year-old girl from Arizona, who was eight months pregnant, was fatally shot early Saturday morning outside a short-term vacation rental in the Bay Park area of San Diego. Her newborn remains in critical condition after an emergency cesarean section.

The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Trevon Williams, the victim's boyfriend and also from Arizona, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

According to the San Diego Police Department, officers responded to multiple 911 calls around 1:10 a.m. Saturday in the 4900 block of Gardena Avenue.

They found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the head and unresponsive. Life-saving measures were initiated for both the mother and her unborn child.

Paramedics transported the woman to a local hospital, where an emergency C-section was performed. Despite efforts, the mother died at the hospital, and the newborn remains in critical condition.

Homicide detectives learned that the victim and several family members were visiting San Diego from Arizona and staying in a vacation rental. Williams had traveled to San Diego separately and met the victim outside the rental, where he shot her before fleeing on foot to a nearby canyon.

He was found hiding near 4900 September Street at about 3 a.m. and taken into custody without incident.

A semi-automatic handgun was allegedly recovered at the time of his arrest.

Williams was booked into the San Diego County jail. The shooting remains under investigation. The SDPD asks anyone with information to contact the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
