Fatal Crash: Pickup Driver Kills Two Cyclists on PCH in Ventura County

Two bicyclists are dead and a third is injured after a suspected drunk driver struck them in Ventura County on Friday evening. The incident occurred just after 7 p.m.

on the Pacific Coast Highway near Solimar Beach Road, approximately five miles northwest of downtown Ventura. According to the California Highway Patrol, the cyclists were riding northbound in a dedicated bike lane when a northbound pickup truck veered into the lane and hit them from behind.

The driver then collided with a nearby guardrail. One cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, and a second died later at a hospital.

A third cyclist is being treated for moderate injuries. The names of the victims have not yet been released.

Officers arrested the driver, a 24-year-old man from Oxnard, on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. His name has also not been released.

The CHP is continuing its investigation into the crash.
