The Paradise Bobcats traveled to Hawaii this weekend for a special cross-state matchup. Despite a strong second-half rally, they ultimately fell short against the Lahainaluna Lunas.
The first Unity Bowl brought together two high schools separated by thousands of miles. Paradise opened scoring quickly when quarterback Cannon Baker connected with receiver Zeke Gibson on a 57-yard touchdown strike. The early lead was short-lived, however. Lahainaluna responded immediately and dominated the first half. They scored 27 unanswered points to take a commanding halftime lead.
Paradise refused to quit in the second half. Running back Evan Higgs found the end zone in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 27-14. Gibson added another highlight with a 55-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. The comeback attempt stalled just six points short as time expired.
This loss drops Paradise to a 1-2 record heading into a crucial stretch of their schedule. The team now has a week off before returning to Northern California action. Their next challenge arrives on September 18 when they host the Gridley Bulldogs at home.
