Sierra National Forest officials have declared an extraordinary success for the High Sierra Ranger District's OHV program, thanks to a monumental volunteer effort. As of June 23, 2026, nearly every off-highway vehicle (OHV) trail in the district is either open or ready for the season.
The Red Mountain and Brewer OHV trails have been roaring open since June 15, and the Swamp and Spanish trails are set for a grand opening on July 1.
The achievement is the result of dedicated work by several volunteer groups, including Ready 2 Rock, Krawler Krew, Lock in Low, Clovis Independent, and 4X4 Him, who spent entire weekends clearing paths and battling mosquitoes. Additional thanks go to Clovis 4X4 and Hill Hoppers for their phenomenal efforts.
This weekend, the district will hold Moonlight Madness events. The High Sierra OHV Crew will be at Tamarack Snopark on Friday from 2 PM to 4 PM promoting the "Tread Lightly" message.
On Saturday, they will host short presentations starting at 10 AM at Base Camp.
