Modesto Elementary Students Relocated After Deadly Assault Near Campus

Students at Orville Wright Elementary School in Modesto were relocated to La Loma Junior High School on Thursday as police investigate a deadly assault that occurred near the campus. The Modesto Police Department reported that officers responded to the area of Monterey Avenue and Thrasher Avenue, where they found a victim of an assault who later died.

A heavy police presence, including at least one armored vehicle, was observed near Larkin Avenue and Thrasher Avenue. In a message to parents, the school's principal stated that the police department placed the school on lockdown as a precaution.

Subsequently, students and staff were safely transported by buses to La Loma Junior High School. The principal confirmed that all students and staff are safe and secure.

Staff is coordinating a reunification process, and all parents and guardians are instructed to report to La Loma Junior High to pick up their student. A valid photo ID is required.
