Jacob Clopton Charged with Seven Felonies After Over 100 Guns and Meth Found at Morro Bay Home

Morro Bay, crime, police, court

A Morro Bay man is facing seven felony charges after authorities seized over 100 firearms, ammunition, and methamphetamine from his home earlier this month. Jacob Cole Clopton, 39, was charged following a search warrant executed by the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office on March 12 at a residence on Little Morro Creek Road in Morro Bay, according to a press release from the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney's Office.

Detectives recovered approximately 107 firearms, a substantial quantity of ammunition, magazines, firearm components, and methamphetamine during the search. Clopton has prior felony convictions, including resisting arrest and unlawful driving or taking of a vehicle in San Luis Obispo County in 2024, as well as felony theft of a firearm in Cameron County, Texas, in 2016.

The Texas conviction is alleged to qualify as a prior strike under California's Three Strikes law, according to the criminal complaint filed in San Luis Obispo County Superior Court. The charges against Clopton include one felony count of possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded, operable firearm, five felony counts of possession of a firearm by a felon with prior convictions, and one count of possession of ammunition by a prohibited person.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact San Luis Obispo County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-549-7867 or submit a tip online.

Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
