Final Arguments Delayed in Hearing for Santa Rosa Man Accused in Teens' Fentanyl Overdose Deaths

Santa Rosa, crime, court, health, school

The preliminary hearing for Ramon Nunez Galvan, a Santa Rosa man charged with two counts of murder and other offenses related to providing drugs to minors, has been postponed. Judge Lynnette Brown of Sonoma County Superior Court ordered Nunez to return on June 5 to complete the hearing, after final arguments were scheduled for Friday, May 29, 2026.

Once arguments are presented, Judge Brown may rule that same day on whether sufficient evidence exists for Nunez to face a jury trial.

The case stems from events on February 22, 2025, when two girls, aged 14 and 16, were hospitalized after overdosing on drugs at an apartment on Klute Street. Later that day, authorities responded to a home on Brookwood Avenue, where Logan Camp, 18, and Gia Walsh, 16, were pronounced dead due to drug overdoses.

Camp was a senior at Montgomery High School, and Walsh was a junior at Santa Rosa High School.

Police testified that Nunez was identified through an Instagram account used by the teens to acquire cocaine. Officers located him on Santa Rosa Avenue, and a search of his car uncovered a notebook that investigators said connected him to the teens, drugs, Narcan, and plastic sealable bags similar to those found at the victims' homes.

During the hearing, a 15-year-old survivor testified that she had used cocaine before without issue, but on the night of February 21, 2025, she felt like she couldn't feel her legs after consuming the drug. She stated she began purchasing cocaine from Nunez in December 2024 or January 2025, communicating via Instagram.

She identified Nunez in court. The two surviving girls, now 15 and 18, both described experiencing unusual and severe effects.

Investigators testified that a notebook found in Nunez's possession contained records of drug sales, buyers, and amounts, indicating he had been selling both cocaine and fentanyl. The notes allegedly matched purchases made by two of the teens who overdosed, one of whom survived and one who died.

Sonoma County forensic pathologist Kimi Verilhac testified that both Camp and Walsh tested positive for a dangerous combination of fentanyl and cocaine intoxication.

Santa Rosa Police Officer Nicholas Vlahandreas testified that Nunez was identified through the Instagram account. Nunez's public defender highlighted testimony from a U.S.

Drug Enforcement Agency forensic chemist, Brittani Huntington, who stated that some baggies evaluated showed no signs of fentanyl. However, a prosecutor countered that this did not prove fentanyl was absent before the evaluation.

Nunez remains incarcerated. The hearing is set to resume on June 5 for final arguments and a possible decision on whether the case will proceed to trial.
