Preliminary investigations indicate that a sedan traveling northbound crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound pickup truck. The driver of the sedan, identified as a 25-year-old man from Redding, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 42-year-old man from Anderson, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the collision, including whether impairment or distracted driving were factors.
