After long nights of studying and the stress of final exams, approximately 8,600 Anteaters gathered at UC Irvine's Bren Events Center to celebrate their achievements during a series of commencement ceremonies. The university held back-to-back events on Monday, June 15, 2026, following earlier ceremonies in May for the schools of law, pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, and medicine.
Chancellor Howard Gillman addressed graduates, emphasizing the university's 60-year legacy of educating exceptional students from diverse backgrounds. “The class of 2026 embodies that mission as it goes forth enabled, inspired and empowered to pursue a better nation and a better world,” Gillman said in a statement.
Over the academic year, UC Irvine awarded nearly 11,200 degrees, including 8,510 bachelor's degrees, 1,791 master's degrees, and 556 doctoral degrees. The university also conferred more than 180 law degrees, over 100 medical degrees, and nearly 50 pharmacy degrees.
A highlight of the graduation statistics is that 41% of bachelor's degree recipients are first-generation college students, which officials described as a testament to the university's commitment to access and affordability. Additionally, about 2,600 undergraduates transferred to UCI from community colleges.
The ceremonies featured joyful moments captured by photographers, including graduates cheering with friends and family, students checking their outfits before the event, and even a cap-and-gown-wearing dog named Laifu accompanying graduate Iris Wang.
