Oficial de SFPD y sospechoso de robo heridos en tiroteo en Bayview

A shootout between San Francisco police officers and two robbery suspects Sunday night left an officer and one suspect critically wounded, while the second suspect was arrested. The incident began around 10:29 p.m.

when police were alerted to a robbery suspect's vehicle entering San Francisco via the Bay Bridge. Officers spotted the vehicle on Fifth Street in SoMa, near Folsom Street, and attempted to pull it over near Mission and First streets.

The driver fled, leading police on a chase into the Bayview District, where the car became disabled at Bayshore Boulevard and Jerrold Avenue. According to the SFPD, when officers approached, the driver opened fire, striking one officer multiple times.

Police returned fire, and the passenger sustained life-threatening injuries. The driver fled on foot but was apprehended nearby.

Officers recovered two guns at the scene. ShotSpotter data recorded 19 shots fired from high-capacity weapons.

The San Francisco Police Officers Association confirmed the wounded officer is expected to survive and was in surgery Monday morning. The names of the suspects and officers have not been released.

The incident is under investigation by the SFPD Investigative Services Division, the District Attorney's Office, and the SFPD Internal Affairs Division.
