Investigators believe that two ransom notes addressed to the family of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie, were sent by the same person or group responsible for her abduction. The notes, which were sent days after Guthrie disappeared from her home in Tucson, Arizona, are thought to have originated from the same computer IP address, according to sources familiar with the case.

The first note, sent on February 2, one day after Guthrie was reported missing, demanded millions in bitcoin for her release. It was addressed to Savannah Guthrie and sent to three media outlets—two local news stations and TMZ—via their online tiplines.

The note contained highly specific details about Guthrie's home, including that an Apple Watch with a white band was on her bedroom floor and that her back porch light was broken.

A second note, sent on February 6, revealed that Nancy Guthrie had died. Sources who reviewed the notes said the abductors indicated they did not intend for her to die.

The second note was similar in language and style to the first but made no demands.

Savannah Guthrie, in an interview with NBC in March, stated that the family believes the two notes are authentic. "There are a lot of different notes, I think, that came, and I think most of them—it's my understanding—are not real, and I didn't see them," she said.

"But I believe the two notes that we received, that we responded to, I tend to believe those are real."

After the second note was sent, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings publicly addressed their mother's kidnappers in an Instagram video. The investigation continues as authorities work to identify the perpetrators.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the high-profile nature of Savannah Guthrie's role as a national television host.

The context of the disappearance is noted in Modoc County, with the city of Likely being mentioned in relation to the case.
