Ataque con drones iraníes en el aeropuerto de Kuwait mata a una persona y hiere a decenas; las conversaciones de alto el fuego se estancan

Kuwait's main international airport was partially shut down Wednesday after Iranian drones heavily damaged a terminal building, killing one person and wounding 63 others, according to Kuwaiti officials. The attack marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States, testing a fragile ceasefire that has been in place.

Defense Ministry spokesperson Brig. Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi said "a number of hostile drones" targeted a passenger building at Kuwait International Airport.

Health Ministry spokesman Abdullah Al Sanad confirmed one fatality and 63 wounded, including passengers and workers, some with serious injuries. The Foreign Ministry stated Kuwait reserves the right to respond and will "neither accept nor tolerate" the attacks.

The airport partially reopened later in the day, with Kuwait Airways flights resuming from a different terminal. The airport had only reopened Monday after closing early in the war.

The U.S. military reported that Iran fired two missiles at Kuwait that fell apart en route, and that it "downed multiple drones" targeting American forces in the country.

U.S. and Bahraini forces also intercepted missiles aimed at Bahrain, home to the U.S.

military launched strikes on an Iranian military ground control station on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard acknowledged targeting the 5th Fleet headquarters and U.S.

military facilities in another country, but did not name Kuwait. Iran's Foreign Ministry condemned the U.S.

strikes on Qeshm Island, calling them "acts of aggression" that violated the ceasefire. A senior Emirati diplomat called for "a firm, unified, and cohesive Gulf position" against Iran.

Meanwhile, semiofficial Iranian news agencies Fars and Tasnim reported that Iran's negotiators have stopped communicating with ceasefire mediators, as tensions flare in Israel's separate war against Hezbollah in Lebanon. A regional official said Iran had not communicated on Tuesday after insisting that a ceasefire in Lebanon must be enforced for negotiations to continue.

President Donald Trump called reports of a cessation in talks "false and erroneous," stating conversations have been ongoing. The war with Iran is increasingly tied to Israel's war in Lebanon, where Israeli forces have moved deeper into Lebanon than in over a quarter of a century, and Hezbollah has launched rocket and drone attacks.

Lebanon has emerged as a key sticking point in Trump's efforts to sign a ceasefire deal with Iran, with Tehran insisting any larger truce must also quell fighting in Lebanon. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants to keep the issues separate and is under domestic pressure to strike Hezbollah as he prepares for new elections.

The fighting has exposed a rift between Israel and the U.S., with the U.S. pushing for restraint and Israel seeking to step up military pressure.

A person familiar with the situation said Netanyahu and Trump had a "tense" conversation earlier this week.
