On Saturday, June 20, 2026, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the North Central Fire Protection District, will distribute more than 250 free life jackets to residents of Fresno County. The giveaway will begin at 10:00 a.m.
and will take place simultaneously at four park locations: Skaggs Bridge Park, Lost Lake Park, Avocado Lake Park, and Laton-Kingston Park. The life jackets come in adult, child, and infant sizes and will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis.
Recipients must be present to receive a jacket. Officials are asking those who already own a life jacket to allow others to go first.
Participants are instructed to form a single-file line at the distribution point, marked by a red dot on each park’s map. Based on past events, all jackets are expected to be given away within 30 minutes.
The goal of the initiative is to encourage swimmers to wear life jackets every time they enter a lake or river, making it as routine as buckling a seat belt. The event is made possible by the Sheriff’s Foundation for Public Safety, the North Central Fire Protection District, and Big 5 Sporting Goods of Fresno and Clovis.
