The City of Fort Bragg has announced the installation of two sets of scenic viewing binoculars along the Coastal Trail, a project approved by the City Council to enhance visitors' experience of the area's natural beauty. Each location features a pair of binoculars: one mounted at a standard height of 60 inches and another at an ADA-accessible height, ensuring accessibility for all.
The viewing heads offer 360-degree rotation and a vertical viewing range of 30 degrees up or down, allowing users to observe the ocean, cliffs, birds, and marine life with greater clarity.
One pair of binoculars is situated on the North Coastal Trail, just south of Glass Beach and adjacent to the picnic table area, providing 20x magnification for detailed views. The second pair is located on the South Coastal Trail, just west of the parking lot, offering 10x magnification.
Neither set is coin-operated, and both are available for public use at no cost, making them freely accessible to residents and visitors alike.
The Blue Zones Project selected this initiative as a Blue Zones Marquee Project for the City of Fort Bragg. Marquee Projects typically involve permanent improvements to the built environment that encourage physical activity, foster community connection, and promote appreciation of the natural environment.
The City of Fort Bragg expressed sincere gratitude to the Blue Zones Project for its generous gift and support in making this Coastal Trail enhancement possible. These enhancements are intended to enrich the recreational experience for everyone while encouraging a deeper appreciation of the area's natural beauty.
