The Environmental Center of San Luis Obispo (ECOSLO) launched its summer beach cleanup series on Saturday, June 20, at Cayucos Pier in Cayucos, California. Volunteers gathered along the coast to collect trash and meticulously document every item removed from the shoreline.

The initiative aims to prevent ocean pollution and ensure cleaner beaches for visitors.

Kendra Paulding, Executive Director of ECOSLO, emphasized the importance of these efforts: 'If we don't pick up that trash, the animals in the ocean will eat the pieces of trash because they don't know the difference. And so, what we're trying to do is to avoid that.

When there's less pollution going into our beaches, we are in much better shape.'

During previous summer cleanups, volunteers have collected thousands of pounds of debris, highlighting the ongoing need for community action. ECOSLO plans to host numerous additional beach cleanups throughout the summer.

Interested individuals can find event dates and register to volunteer on the organization's website.

The Cayucos event marked the beginning of a season dedicated to protecting marine life and preserving the natural beauty of California's Central Coast.
