The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors is set to convene on Tuesday for a regular session that includes honoring two long-serving fire chiefs and voting on a new contract for the county's public health officer.

During the meeting, the board will approve proclamations recognizing retiring Mokelumne Hill Fire Protection District Chief Michael Dell'Orto and Calaveras Consolidated Fire Protection District Chief Richard Dickinson. Dell'Orto began his service with the Mokelumne Hill Fire Department in 1963, dedicating over 60 years to the department.

He also served as a Calaveras County Supervisor from 1988 to 1996 and was instrumental in the development and completion of the Paloma Fire Station, significantly advancing fire services in the county.

Chief Dickinson, who has led the Calaveras Consolidated Fire District for a decade, previously retired as a Battalion Chief from the Fremont Fire Department after a distinguished career. He is recognized for fostering strong partnerships and innovative leadership.

Notably, he established Calaveras County's first Rescue Task Force in collaboration with the Sheriff's Office, which led to the creation of a countywide Active Shooter Response Policy that remains a model for coordinated emergency response in the region.

Later in the agenda, the board will vote on approving a new contract with Dr. Rene Ramirez as the Public Health Officer.

Dr. Ramirez, a resident of Fresno County, was initially appointed to the role in 2021.

After the county issued a new request for proposals, Dr. Ramirez received the highest overall score and was deemed the most qualified candidate.

Under the proposed agreement, he will continue as an independent contractor, with compensation of up to $166,400 for the period from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027.

The regular session of Tuesday's meeting will begin at 9 a.m.
