A 33-year-old man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after entering a multi-story office building in Thousand Oaks while carrying multiple firearms, prompting a building-wide search and a shelter-in-place alert for nearby residents and businesses.
The incident began around 3:42 p.m. on June 17, when Ventura County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of a man entering an office building armed with several guns.
According to a press release issued Thursday, the man did not brandish the handgun at any point while inside the building, and investigators later confirmed he was not a member of law enforcement or building security.
Deputies located the suspect near The Oaks Mall and conducted a search of his person and vehicle. During the search, they discovered a loaded semi-automatic handgun, several loaded magazines, and narcotics paraphernalia.
The suspect was arrested without incident and booked on charges including carrying a loaded firearm in public, driving while under the influence of a controlled substance, being under the influence of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm, and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bail has been set at $150,000.
The Ventura County Sheriff's Office released an image of the seized handgun and shoulder holster. No injuries were reported.
