The American Association of University Women, Tahoe-Nevada Branch (AAUW Tahoe-NV), based in Incline Village, has announced the recipients of its annual scholarships and awards for the 2025 academic year. Six deserving senior women from Incline Village High School were honored during the branch's business meeting on June 10, held at the Chateau in Incline Village.
This year's scholarship winners include Noah Cannon, who plans to study Mechanical Engineering; Alynne Chavez Estrada and Alicia Dominguez, both pursuing degrees in Nursing at different universities; Sofia Galindo, who will study Cosmetology; and Chloe Greer and Riley Hunt, both majoring in Biology/Pre-Med. The awards underscore the branch's commitment to supporting women's education in the Lake Tahoe region.
During the meeting, Co-Presidents Esther Levandoski and Carolyn Smith highlighted the branch's accomplishments over the past year. Notably, the organization raised over $40,000 through a Matching Grant and other fundraising efforts.
Additionally, $12,500 was received in memory of past president Peggy Poindexter for the newly established Career and Technical Education (CTE) scholarship. These funds allowed AAUW Tahoe-NV to award $29,650 in scholarships last fall.
Looking ahead, the branch plans to use $41,000 in 2026 to support two four-year renewable scholarships, two CTE scholarships, one STEM scholarship, and one non-renewable scholarship. Recipients of renewable scholarships must maintain a 3.0 GPA and remain full-time students taking at least 12 units per semester.
The AAUW Tahoe-NV Branch serves over 140 members and hosts monthly meetings featuring speakers on a wide range of topics. The branch also offers various interest groups, including Outdoor Enthusiasts, Book Club, and a Great Decision discussion group.
As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation registered with the Nevada Secretary of State (Federal Tax I.D. #943055754), the branch is dedicated to advancing equity for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy.
