The 69th Annual Long Beach Century Club Sports Night Banquet was held recently, honoring outstanding athletes and teams from the Long Beach area. The event, a staple of the local sports community, brought together coaches, players, and supporters to celebrate achievements across various sports.

Among the highlights of the evening was the recognition of Cabrillo High School's boys' basketball team, which secured a 64-60 upset victory over Millikan in January 2019. This win marked the Jaguars' first triumph over the Rams since 2012, fueled by standout performances from seniors Elijah McGee (20 points, 10 rebounds, three steals) and Sirjohn Hardiman (17 points, 12 rebounds).

In flag football, the Long Beach Unified School District's middle school championships were contested at Lakewood High School, with Rogers, Keller, and Franklin claiming first place in their respective divisions. Rogers edged Hughes 20-19 in a thrilling Division 1 final, avenging a 7-0 overtime loss from the previous week.

The Millikan girls' wrestling team also earned recognition for their eighth-place finish at the CIF State meet, accumulating 47 points. Junior Sierra Adams-Gregory placed third in the 189-pound weight class, while Stephany Arriaga (seventh, 137-pound) and Liz Mata (eighth, 101-pound) contributed to the team's success.

The banquet also featured photos and coverage of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, and a feature on how the LA Galaxy created a World Cup watch party in Long Beach. Additionally, The562 revealed winners of its 2nd Annual Student Photo Competition.
