El Cerrito Woman Attacked with Wrench, Robbed on Ohlone Greenway; Suspect Arrested

A 59-year-old woman was violently assaulted and robbed on the Ohlone Greenway near Wall Avenue in El Cerrito on Wednesday afternoon, leading to the arrest of a 38-year-old San Pablo woman, police said. The attack occurred around 1:30 p.m.

on May 27, when the victim was walking southbound on the greenway. According to the El Cerrito Police Department, the suspect, identified as Dakauna Buckley, approached the victim and struck her in the back of the head with a large metal wrench, then hit her again on the side of the face.

The assault caused deep cranial and facial lacerations and resulted in the loss of teeth. After incapacitating the victim, Buckley forcibly pulled her purse away.

Despite her injuries, the victim managed to walk to a nearby restaurant and signal for help. A witness contacted police and observed Buckley hiding in nearby bushes.

Richmond Police Department officers, initially believing the incident occurred in their jurisdiction, arrived on scene and spoke with the victim, who pointed out the suspect's location. When officers attempted to detain Buckley, she fled on foot but was apprehended after a brief chase.

Buckley was taken into custody without further incident. The victim was transported to a local trauma center for treatment of her injuries.
