Tens of thousands of residents across Garden Grove, Anaheim, Westminster, Buena Park, Cypress, and Stanton were allowed to return home after a faulty chemical tank that nearly exploded forced evacuations ahead of Memorial Day weekend in North Orange County. Officials lifted the evacuation orders on May 29, 2026, allowing residents to re-enter the affected areas.

Authorities are recommending that residents keep track of any losses and expenses incurred during the incident and contact their insurance companies for assistance. The tank, located in Anaheim, was deemed unstable and posed a significant explosion risk, prompting the large-scale evacuation.
