A brush fire erupted Wednesday morning at Camp Pendleton, burning approximately 150 acres and prompting evacuation warnings for parts of Oceanside. The blaze, dubbed the November Fire, was reported shortly after 10 a.m.
near the Marine Memorial Golf Course, which was evacuated along with the city's municipal golf course, according to CalFire and Oceanside police.
The fire is spreading south toward Oceanside, leading to evacuation warnings for residents in zones SDC-0429, SDC-0317, and SDC-0372. These areas are directly south of the base, bounded roughly by State Route 76 on the southwest and extending east between Douglas Drive and Vandegrift Boulevard.
A temporary evacuation center has been set up at El Camino High School, located at 400 Rancho Del Oro Drive in Oceanside.
Officials from the North County Fire Protection District stated in a social media post that while smoke may be visible, there is no immediate fire threat to their district. The San Diego County Air Pollution Control District reported that communities outside Camp Pendleton affected by smoke include Oceanside, Bonsall, and Fallbrook.
Crews are actively battling the fire, which started in the November Training Area near Wire Mountain Housing. Residents in the affected zones are advised to prepare for possible rapid evacuation.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
