California Primary Election Results: Voters Decide Key Races Including Governor

California voters are casting their final ballots in the primary election that will determine the candidates for the November general election to succeed Governor Gavin Newsom, who is term-limited after two terms. The election also includes races for the U.S.

House of Representatives, which will influence control of Congress during the final two years of President Trump's term. Other statewide offices on the ballot include lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, controller, treasurer, superintendent of public instruction, insurance commissioner, and members of the Board of Equalization, as well as candidates for the California Assembly and Senate.

Recent polls in the governor's race show Democrats Xavier Becerra and Tom Steyer in a tight competition with Republican Steve Hilton. The top two vote-getters, regardless of party, will advance to the November election.

In close races, declaring winners may take days or even weeks. Ballots postmarked today can be received and counted until June 9.

The Secretary of State has until July 10 to certify the results. As votes are tallied, we will provide updates on all key races and continuously updated results below.
