A brush fire ignited on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Wednesday morning, rapidly expanding to approximately 75 acres within an hour, according to Oceanside police. The fire was reported around 10:30 a.m.
in the November Training Area near Wire Mountain Housing, a residential area on the military installation adjacent to the city of Oceanside. Camp Pendleton officials confirmed the fire's location and noted that no evacuation orders were issued for base housing.
However, evacuation warnings were issued for the nearby Oceanside Municipal Golf Course and several surrounding neighborhoods. Residents in areas west of Douglas Drive and west of Vandegrift Boulevard were advised to prepare for potential evacuation.
A temporary evacuation point was established at El Camino High School, located at 400 Rancho Del Oro in Oceanside. The San Diego County Air Pollution Control District issued a smoke advisory for Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, Bonsall, and Fallbrook, as a large plume of smoke was visible from miles away, captured by SkyRanger 7 cameras.
Firefighting crews are actively working to contain the blaze, and the situation remains dynamic. Authorities urge residents to stay informed and be ready to leave at a moment's notice if an evacuation order is issued.
This is a developing story, and further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
