BART crews will conduct track work and upgrades along the Orange and Green lines this weekend, forcing service changes and longer commutes for thousands of riders. The final two trains from Berryessa/North San Jose, normally scheduled for 11:38 p.m. and 11:49 p.m., will be canceled due to the work. The last train will now depart at 11:10 p.m.
Passengers traveling between Union City and Warm Springs will be transferred to free buses while crews complete track upgrades. BART expects delays of 30 to 40 minutes on that segment. Additionally, Green Line service between Daly City and Berryessa will not operate this weekend. Riders from San Francisco can take a Dublin/Pleasanton train and transfer at Bayfair to a Berryessa train. Those coming from the Berryessa line can take a Richmond train and transfer at Bayfair to a Daly City train.
For commuters in Daly City, the Green Line suspension means they cannot take a direct train to Berryessa. Instead, they must ride to Bayfair and switch trains, adding significant time to their trips. BART officials say the changes are necessary for maintenance and safety.
'We recommend passengers allow extra travel time and check the service alerts on our website before heading out,' a BART spokesperson said. The agency also reminded riders that the free shuttle buses operate only between Union City and Warm Springs.
The weekend work is part of BART's broader effort to reduce delays and crowding, a goal the agency has been working on for months. Recent schedule changes have aimed to improve on-time performance, according to NBC Bay Area. Track upgrades are a key part of that strategy, even when they cause short-term passenger inconvenience.
According to KTVU, the primary goal of the schedule overhaul is to reduce wait times for commuters and create more consistent service intervals.
The new schedule, which takes effect Monday, brings specific timing adjustments across all lines. Trains on the Yellow and Red lines, serving Berkeley, El Cerrito, and Richmond, now arrive every 10 minutes, replacing the previous 5- and 15-minute intervals. The Blue and Green lines heading toward Berryessa and Dublin have also been adjusted: previously running 3 and 17 minutes apart, they now operate on wait times of 8 and 12 minutes.
Key transfer hubs have been upgraded as well. Bay Fair station now features a cross-platform transfer to simplify connections between Dublin and San Jose, while MacArthur station has introduced a four-minute transfer window to give passengers ample time to switch trains. BART advises riders that daily departure times may differ by a few minutes, and some boarding platforms may have changed.
Before traveling, check BART's official website or app for the latest service information. Consider leaving earlier or using alternative routes, especially if your destination is on the Green Line between Daly City and Berryessa. Although the changes are temporary, they can significantly affect evening plans.
BART's weekend track work will create real disruptions, but clear alternatives exist. With free shuttles, transfer options, and earlier last trains, riders can still reach their destinations. Staying informed is the key to avoiding unnecessary delays.
