A 71-year-old man was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash in La Jolla on Sunday evening, according to the San Diego Police Department. The incident occurred around 4:40 p.m.
at the intersection of La Jolla Boulevard and Nautilus Street. The victim was riding a 2025 Vespa moped southbound on La Jolla Boulevard when he entered the intersection on a green light.
An unknown driver in a black Nissan Rogue, traveling eastbound, ran a red light and struck the moped. Police said the Nissan, manufactured between 2008 and 2013, fled the scene immediately after the collision.
The victim was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, including a fractured pelvis with internal bleeding, a brain bleed, a collapsed lung, and multiple rib fractures. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
The crash remains under investigation, and no arrests have been reported as of Monday.
