Three generations of artists are uniting to showcase their diverse talents in a new gallery exhibition.
'The Works of Our Hands' brings together three distinct areas of artistry from family members located across the county and the country. The exhibition features works by Patti Harris from Buffalo, New York, Amina Harris of Davis, and Shoshana Zeldner from Woodland. This gathering marks a significant milestone, particularly for Patti Harris, who is presenting her work on the West Coast for the first time.
Amina Harris, a long-standing member of The Artery, specializes in one-of-a-kind jewelry that incorporates artifacts from ancient to modern times. Drawing from her background as a History of Art major, she focuses on the craft of each historical period. Her latest pieces have been heavily influenced by a recent trip to Morocco, blending historical research with contemporary design.
Meanwhile, Patti Harris draws inspiration from industrial design, natural materials, and vintage objects. She constructs three-dimensional collages using foundry patterns, old frames, and items sourced from antique stores. Her approach creates visual impact by combining unexpected materials, inviting viewers to engage deeply with the finished pieces.
Shoshana Zeldner, Amina's daughter and a resident of Woodland, presents ceramic sculptures that center around the human body and its emotional boundaries. Known for her meticulous attention to detail, Shoshana uses clay to explore invisible experiences and subtle interactions within the physical form. This exhibition serves as her debut show.
The exhibition highlights the vibrant creative ecosystem within Yolo County. By featuring artists based in both Davis and Woodland, alongside international talent, The Artery demonstrates how local galleries serve as crucial hubs for cross-regional artistic exchange. The event underscores the growing prominence of Woodlands and Davis as centers for independent artisans and sculptors in Northern California.
Located at 207 G Street in downtown Davis, The Artery has established itself as a premier community-focused gallery space. Over the years, it has consistently supported local makers and provided platforms for emerging artists to present their work to the public. This upcoming show continues its tradition of celebrating craftsmanship and personal narrative through diverse artistic expressions.
'The Works of Our Hands' will be open to the public starting October 26. Visitors are encouraged to experience the convergence of generational talent and varied artistic mediums firsthand. For more details on hours and additional programming, attendees can visit the gallery at 207 G Street.
